Büyükelçilik

Büyükelçilik is the Turkish word for embassy. An embassy is the diplomatic mission of one country sent to another country, headed by an ambassador. It represents the sending country's government and its interests, and serves as a point of contact for citizens of the sending country residing or traveling in the host country. Embassies are typically located in the capital city of the host nation.

The primary functions of an embassy include facilitating diplomatic relations, negotiating treaties, promoting trade and cultural exchange, and providing consular services to its citizens. Consular services can include issuing passports and visas, assisting with legal matters, and offering support in emergencies. Ambassadors are the highest-ranking diplomatic representatives and are appointed by their head of state.

The status and functions of an embassy are governed by international law, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The embassy building itself is considered extraterritorial, meaning it is subject to the laws of the sending country, not the host country, although certain immunities apply. The staff of an embassy, including diplomats and support personnel, also enjoy diplomatic privileges and immunities. The term "büyükelçilik" specifically refers to the highest level of diplomatic representation, led by a "büyükelçi" (ambassador).
