Byggarbeiders

Byggarbeiders, literally translation of the term means "building workers". It is a widely used term in Norway, referring to migrant workers who were brought in from other countries, primarily within Europe, to work in the construction industry.

The history of byggarbeiders dates back to the mid-20th century, when Norway experienced a significant economic boom, which led to an increased demand for construction labor. Many Norwegian construction companies turned to foreign markets to recruit workers, mostly from Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean region. The migrant workers then faced various challenges, including difficulties with communication, cultural adjustments, and poor working conditions.
