Butuanon
Butuanon refers to the people or things associated with Butuan City, located in the Agusan del Norte province of the Philippines. This includes the indigenous inhabitants of the region and the local culture. The Butuanon people primarily speak the Butuanon language, a Visayan language spoken by a significant portion of the population in the city and surrounding areas. Historically, Butuan was a thriving trading port even before the arrival of the Spanish, known for its gold production. This historical significance is reflected in archaeological finds, such as the Balangay boats, which are ancient wooden watercraft discovered in Butuan. The culture of the Butuanon people is a blend of indigenous traditions and influences from centuries of trade and Spanish colonization. Their economy has traditionally been reliant on agriculture, fishing, and local crafts. Butuan City itself serves as a major economic and administrative center for the Caraga Region. The term Butuanon is therefore a broad identifier encompassing the linguistic, cultural, and demographic identity of the inhabitants of this particular part of the Philippines.
