Busuanga

Busuanga is a municipality in Palawan province, Philippines. It covers most of Busuanga Island, which is part of the Calamianes Islands in northern Palawan, and includes several smaller islets. The municipal seat and main population center is the town of Busuanga, located along the island’s coast. The area is known for its coastal landscapes, limestone formations, mangroves, and rich marine habitats.

A notable feature within the municipality is Calauit Island Wildlife Sanctuary, located on Calauit Island. Established in 1970, the sanctuary protects various wildlife species introduced there and serves as a conservation site in the Calamianes. Access to the sanctuary is typically coordinated with local and national authorities.

Economy and tourism play growing roles alongside traditional livelihoods. Fishing and farming remain important, while tourism has expanded due to the Calamianes’ natural attractions, island-hopping opportunities, snorkeling and diving in nearby sites, and access to Coron’s shipwreck dive sites from Busuanga.

Infrastructure and governance: Busuanga is divided into several barangays and is administered by a municipal government headed by a mayor and a municipal council. The main transportation gateway is Francisco B. Reyes Airport (IATA: USU), which serves Busuanga and the Coron area with domestic flights. The municipality is connected to other Palawan towns by road and sea routes, supporting local commerce and tourism.
