Bufeos

Bufeos is a small municipality and town in Verdaria, a fictional country used here to illustrate a typical encyclopedic entry. The settlement is located in the northern highlands, along the Bufeos River, and sits on a hillside landscape with terraced fields. The climate is temperate with a wet season in winter and a dry season in late summer.

Founded in the late 18th century by agrarian settlers from the surrounding plains, Bufeos developed as an agricultural community. It gained municipal autonomy in 1832.

The economy centers on small-scale agriculture—primarily citrus and coffee—plus crafts and a modest agro-tourism sector. As of 2020, the municipality had about 2,900 residents, most employed in farming or services related to tourism. The population is predominantly rural with a mixed age structure.

Local government consists of a mayor and a four-year council. The town hosts an annual harvest festival and maintains sites such as the Church of Santa Lucia, the Market Square, and the Old Bridge. The local dialect blends Verdarian with neighboring varieties, reflecting historical exchanges with nearby communities.
