Bromoarenes
Bromoarenes are a class of organic compounds that consist of an aromatic ring to which one or more bromine atoms are covalently bonded. The general formula for a bromoarene is Ar-Br, where Ar represents an aryl group, such as a phenyl ring. These compounds are synthesized through various electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions, typically involving bromine in the presence of a Lewis acid catalyst like iron(III) bromide or aluminum bromide. Alternatively, they can be prepared from anilines via diazotization followed by treatment with copper(I) bromide (Sandmeyer reaction) or from phenols.
Bromoarenes serve as important intermediates in organic synthesis due to the reactivity of the carbon-bromine bond.
