British-born is a descriptive term used to indicate that a person was born in the United Kingdom. The phrase is typically hyphenated when used as an attributive adjective, as in "British-born author." It can also be written without a hyphen in some contexts, but hyphenation is standard in formal writing.

The United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. In everyday usage, "British-born" is understood to refer to individuals born in these areas.
