Brinenkanäle
Brinenkanäle are drainage channels found in the karst landscapes of the Swabian Jura in southern Germany. These features are characterized by their unique morphology and the role they play in the hydrological system of the region. Brinenkanäle are typically shallow, elongated depressions that form on the surface of the limestone bedrock. They are not rivers in the conventional sense, as they do not carry continuous surface water flow. Instead, they act as conduits for the infiltration of rainwater and meltwater into the subsurface karst system.
The formation of Brinenkanäle is closely linked to the dissolution of soluble rocks, primarily limestone, a
These channels are often dry for extended periods, only exhibiting water flow after significant rainfall events
