Booridoksidi

Booridoksidi, also known as boron trioxide, is a chemical compound with the formula B2O3. It is a white, amorphous solid and is the most common oxide of boron. Booridoksidi is highly hygroscopic, meaning it readily absorbs moisture from the air. It dissolves in water to form boric acid, B(OH)3.

The compound has a high melting point of approximately 450 degrees Celsius, although it readily supercools to form a glass. This glassy form is known as borosilicate glass, which is used in many laboratory applications due to its resistance to thermal shock and chemical attack. Booridoksidi is also a key component in the production of other boron compounds and is used as a flux in metallurgy and ceramics. In glass manufacturing, it helps to lower the melting point and increase the durability of the glass. Its presence in glass can also impart specific optical properties.

Booridoksidi is not naturally occurring but is synthesized by dehydrating boric acid at high temperatures. The chemical properties of booridoksidi are largely determined by its ability to act as a Lewis acid. It is an acidic oxide and reacts with bases to form borate salts. Industrially, it is produced on a large scale and finds applications in diverse fields ranging from electronics to agriculture.
