Boardman

Boardman is a census-designated place located in Morrow County, Oregon, United States. It lies along the Columbia River, approximately 15 miles west of Hermiston. The community is situated in the semi-arid region of the Columbia Plateau.

The area was settled by pioneers in the late 19th century, with the town of Boardman established in the early 20th century. Its development was closely tied to agriculture, particularly wheat farming and, later, irrigated crops made possible by the Columbia River. The town was named after William Boardman, an early settler.

Boardman's economy is largely based on agriculture, including the cultivation of potatoes, onions, and corn, as well as livestock ranching. The presence of the Columbia River also supports recreational activities and has led to some industrial development. The Boardman State Park offers access to the river for boating and fishing. The community serves as a local hub for agricultural services and retail for the surrounding rural areas.

As of the 2020 census, Boardman had a population of 3,460. The community is served by local schools and civic organizations. Its location provides access to transportation routes, including U.S. Route 730.
