The core principle involves detecting and counting individual bubbles as they move through a specific volume or past a detection point.

The method of detection can vary. Optical sensors, for example, can register the passage of a bubble by the change in light intensity as it momentarily obstructs a beam. Acoustic sensors can detect the sound produced by bubble formation or collapse. Electrical conductivity probes can also be employed, as bubbles typically alter the electrical properties of a liquid.

Blasenzählung finds applications in diverse fields. In chemical engineering, it is used to monitor gas-liquid reactions, assess reactor performance, and optimize mixing processes. In environmental monitoring, it can help quantify aeration rates in wastewater treatment plants. Medical applications include monitoring gas flow in respiratory support systems or detecting air embolisms. The accuracy of the count depends on the sensitivity of the sensor, the flow rate, and the size and characteristics of the bubbles.
