Biotechnológiák

Biotechnológiák is the Hungarian term for biotechnology. Biotechnology refers to the use of living organisms or their components to create or modify products, improve plants or animals, or develop microorganisms for specific uses. It is a broad field that encompasses a wide range of techniques and applications.

Historically, biotechnology has been practiced for millennia through methods like fermentation, used in making bread, cheese, and alcoholic beverages. Modern biotechnology, however, leverages advancements in molecular biology, genetics, and cellular engineering. Key areas within biotechnology include genetic engineering, which involves manipulating genes to alter an organism's traits, and recombinant DNA technology, used to combine DNA from different sources.

Applications of biotechnology are diverse. In medicine, it is used to develop new drugs, vaccines, and diagnostic tools, as well as in gene therapy. Agriculture benefits from biotechnology through the development of genetically modified crops that are resistant to pests, diseases, or environmental stresses, and improved livestock. Environmental biotechnology focuses on using biological processes to remediate pollution and manage waste.
