Binhai

Binhai (滨海) is a Chinese toponym meaning "coastal" or "seaside" and is used in several place names along the Bohai Sea coast, particularly in the Tianjin region. The most prominent contemporary uses refer to two administrative entities in Tianjin: Binhai District and Binhai New Area.

Binhai District (滨海区) is a municipal district of Tianjin that covers the coastal and port areas east of central Tianjin. It includes major harbor facilities and industrial zones that support maritime trade, logistics, and manufacturing. The district is part of the larger Tianjin urban area and has undergone administrative and economic development to integrate port activities with regional industry.

Binhai New Area (滨海新区) is a state-designated development area established to promote coordinated growth in the Tianjin coastal region. It encompasses a broad corridor along the coast near the Port of Tianjin and includes advanced manufacturing, logistics, finance, and technology sectors, supported by enhanced infrastructure, such as roads, rail, and aviation links in the area.

Outside Tianjin, the characters 滨海 appear in other coastal place names in northern China, reflecting the common meaning of the term. The exact boundaries and governance of such places vary by prefecture-level jurisdiction.
