Bildmessung

Bildmessung, also known as image measurement or photogrammetry, is the science and technology of obtaining reliable information about physical objects and the environment through the process of recording, measuring, and processing image data. It involves taking measurements from photographs, typically in the form of two-dimensional images, to determine the precise dimensions, shape, and position of objects in three-dimensional space. This is achieved by analyzing multiple overlapping images taken from different viewpoints.

The fundamental principle behind bildmessung is triangulation. By identifying corresponding points in multiple images and knowing the camera's position and orientation (or by deriving this information from the images themselves), it's possible to calculate the three-dimensional coordinates of those points. This process requires specialized software that can match features across images, estimate camera parameters, and reconstruct the scene geometry.

Applications of bildmessung are vast and span numerous fields. In engineering and manufacturing, it's used for quality control, reverse engineering, and dimensional inspection. Architecture and construction benefit from its ability to create accurate digital models of buildings and sites for renovation or monitoring.
