Beágyazódási, a Hungarian term, translates to implantation in English. It refers to a crucial early stage of pregnancy where a fertilized egg, now a blastocyst, attaches to and embeds itself within the lining of the uterus, the endometrium. This process is essential for the continuation of pregnancy.

The blastocyst, a hollow ball of cells, reaches the uterus approximately five to seven days after fertilization. It then begins to secrete enzymes that help it penetrate the endometrium. Specialized cells within the blastocyst, the trophoblast, play a key role in this invasion, establishing a connection with the maternal tissues. This connection is vital for nutrient and oxygen exchange, which will support the developing embryo.

The implantation process involves complex molecular signaling between the blastocyst and the endometrium. Hormones, such as progesterone, prepare the uterine lining, making it receptive to the implanting embryo. Successful implantation is characterized by the blastocyst becoming fully embedded within the uterine wall. If implantation fails, the pregnancy will not proceed, and menstruation typically occurs. This process is a cornerstone of mammalian reproduction.
