Bestemmelsene is a Norwegian term used to refer to the specific provisions or clauses within a legal text, contract, or regulation. They establish the obligations, rights, prohibitions, and procedural rules that apply to the parties involved. In many contexts, the term highlights the parts of a document that lawfully bind the participants.

In legislative or regulatory texts, bestemmelser define the scope of the law, key definitions, offences or prohibited acts, penalties, and procedural rules. They are typically organized into chapters and sections (or articles) and are intended to be interpreted in light of the law’s purpose and overarching principles.

In contracts and commercial agreements, bestämmelsene are the clauses that govern the relationship between parties.
