Beorhtrics
Beorhtric was a king of the West Saxons who reigned from approximately 786 to 802 AD. His reign is notable for being one of the first where significant inroads were made by Viking raiders, with the earliest recorded raid occurring in 789 AD at Portland, Dorset. Historical records of Beorhtric's reign are somewhat sparse, with much of our understanding coming from the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. He succeeded Cynewulf and was followed by Ecgberht.
