Benzenirungoista

Benzenirungoista is a Finnish term used in organic chemistry to refer to molecules that feature a benzene ring as a core structural unit, or more broadly to the benzene ring motif itself when it appears in larger compounds. The benzene ring is a planar, six-carbon aromatic ring with delocalized pi electrons. In representation, it is often shown as a hexagon, sometimes with a circle inside to indicate aromaticity. The ring’s stability and electronic structure arise from Hückel aromaticity, which describes a system with six pi electrons.

Molecules containing a single benzene ring are called monocyclic aromatic compounds, while those with two or more rings can form polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAHs) or biaryl systems when rings connect by single bonds. Common examples include benzene, toluene, phenol, and aniline. Polycyclic examples include naphthalene, anthracene, and phenanthrene.
