Bencaojing

Bencaojing is a Chinese constellation located on the celestial equator. It is one of the 28 mansions of the lunar lodge system used in traditional Chinese astronomy. The name Bencaojing translates to "counterfeits" or "fakes" in the Chinese language, which likely refers to the group of stars that resemble a pattern of false or artificial objects.

The Bencaojing constellation is situated near another notable Chinese constellation, Chvou. It is an important part of the ancient Chinese star map system, which was used to divide the night sky into 365 sections. These sections were further divided into 24 periods, each associated with a specific time of day.

As an asterism within the larger constellation of Chvou, Bencaojing is composed of several distinct stars. It is one of the lesser-known Chinese constellations, but still holds significance in the understanding of ancient Chinese astronomy and culture. In modern times, the Bencaojing constellation remains an area of interest for astronomers and historians studying the region's rich astronomical heritage.
