When the direct object in a Turkish sentence is definite, meaning it is a specific, known entity (e.g., "the book," "my car," "Ali"), the accusative case marker is attached to the noun. For example, in the sentence "Kitabı okudum" (I read the book), "kitabı" uses the "-ı" suffix to show that a specific book was read.
