Bedrohungslage

Bedrohungslage is a term used in internal security, defense, and crisis management to describe the current assessment of threats to safety and order within a state, region, or organization. It encompasses the perceived likelihood and potential impact of various danger sources, such as terrorism, extremism, cyber threats, espionage, organized crime, natural disasters, and major accidents. The concept is related to, but distinct from, broader security or risk assessments like Lagebild or Sicherheitslage.

In practice, the bedrohungslage is produced by authorities and organizations by evaluating threat actors, their capabilities and intent, and the vulnerabilities of critical infrastructure, institutions, and communities. The assessment draws on intelligence, police and judicial data, cyber threat intelligence, and incident histories, and is updated regularly to reflect new information and evolving conditions. The resulting analysis guides decision-making and action, including preventive measures, resource allocation, enhanced surveillance, public advisories, and contingency planning.

Levels or descriptors of severity may be used to convey the current danger level and inform response protocols. While the bedrohungslage provides a snapshot of risk, it is subject to uncertainty and may be influenced by political, legal, and ethical constraints on information and measures.
