Basavatarakam

Basavatarakam was the wife of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, a prominent figure in Telugu cinema and politics in Andhra Pradesh, India. She was born on August 4, 1928, and passed away on January 25, 1988. Her maiden name was Basava Taraka.

She married N.T. Rama Rao in 1942 and was a homemaker throughout her life, supporting her husband's burgeoning career. While not actively involved in public life, she was a constant presence in his personal affairs. The couple had eight children, five sons and three daughters.

The Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute in Hyderabad, India, is named in her memory. This institution was established by her son, Nandamuri Balakrishna, and is a leading facility for cancer treatment and research. Basavatarakam is remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
