Baltijas

Baltijas is a term used in Baltic languages to denote things related to the Baltic region or the Baltic Sea. In Latvian and Lithuanian, Baltijas and Baltijos function as adjectives and in various inflected forms to modify nouns. Examples include Baltijas jūra, the Baltic Sea, Baltijas valstis, the Baltic States, and Baltijas reģions, the Baltic region.

Geographically, the Baltics cover the shores and waters around the Baltic Sea, including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and sometimes incorporating parts of Poland, Russia (Kaliningrad), Finland, Sweden, and other Nordic states in broader definitions.

Historically, the Baltic region has been a center of trade, culture, and conflict, notably during the era of the Hanseatic League and later under various regional powers. In the 20th century, the area experienced significant upheaval, and after World War II and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Baltic states regained independence and developed integrated economies and institutions.
