Balija
Balija refers to a Telugu-speaking social community found primarily in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Historically, the Balija community was associated with trade, commerce, and military service. The term "Balija" is believed to derive from the Sanskrit word "Banijya," meaning trade or commerce. Various sub-castes exist within the Balija community, often distinguished by geographical location or traditional occupations.
The community has played a significant role in the economic and social fabric of the Deccan region.
