Bajarse

Bajarse is a Spanish verb formed from bajar and commonly used in several senses that vary by region and level of formality. It is often reflexive, but can also appear without the reflexive pronoun when describing actions one performs on oneself or on things related to the speaker.

One widespread informal meaning is “to download” a file or program from the internet. In many Spanish-speaking regions, people say me voy a bajar la película or voy a bajarme la aplicación; in Spain, descargar remains common, but bajarse is widely understood.

Another core sense is to get off or dismount from a vehicle, animal, or similar conveyance. Examples include Tengo que bajarme del autobús en la próxima parada or Me voy a bajar del coche.

Bajarse is also used for removing or taking off clothing or gear that one is wearing. You might hear Se bajó la chaqueta o Me voy a bajar la cremallera, referring to removing outerwear or unzipping a garment.

Notes and regional variation: bajarse can have informal or even vulgar readings in some dialects, particularly in slang, where it may be linked to sexual contexts. Such uses are not appropriate in formal speech and are highly regionally restricted. In formal or neutral contexts, the preferred verbs are bajar, descargar, quitarse, or descolgar, depending on the sense.
