Baglihar

Baglihar is a hydroelectric power station located on the Chenab River in the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The project is a run-of-the-river scheme, meaning it does not involve a large reservoir. It consists of two power stations, Baglihar I and Baglihar II, with a total installed capacity of 900 megawatts. The dam is a concrete gravity dam. Construction of the project began in 2004 and was completed in two phases, with the first stage becoming operational in 2008 and the second in 2015.

The Baglihar Dam has been a subject of discussion, particularly regarding water sharing agreements between India and Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan has raised concerns about the impact of the dam on downstream water flows. However, India maintains that the project adheres to the provisions of the treaty. The power generated from the Baglihar project is primarily supplied to the northern Indian states. The project's development has also been a significant economic undertaking for the region.
