Baasteadic is an architectural and urban design movement and set of practices that emphasize adaptable, ecosystem-informed living infrastructure for flood-prone and climate-volatile regions. The approach integrates modular architecture, water-sensitive urban design, and community-centered governance to increase resilience while minimizing ecological disruption.

Developed in the early 2030s by interdisciplinary teams of architects, ecologists, and engineers working in coastal regions, Baasteadic combines features drawn from wetland ecology and vernacular stilt and raft housing. Typical elements include floating or adjustable foundations, hydraulic buffer zones, salt-tolerant landscaping, compact communal cores for services, and modular living units that can be reconfigured as conditions change. Materials often prioritize recycled composites, bio-based binders, and low-carbon manufacturing processes.

Implementation has been tested in pilot projects across Southeast Asia, northern Europe, and parts of the Americas, where designs aim to reduce displacement risk, support local livelihoods, and integrate decentralized energy and water systems. Proponents argue Baasteadic provides scalable options for cities confronting sea-level rise and intensifying storms while maintaining social cohesion.
