BIMa

Bima is a coastal city on the island of Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Situated on the northern coast, it functions as a port and administrative center for the surrounding region. The city has historical ties to the Bima Sultanate and has long been involved in regional trade networks that linked Sumbawa with other islands in eastern Indonesia and the broader Austronesian world.

In Hindu myth, Bhima is one of the five Pandava brothers in the Mahabharata. In Indonesian usage the name is commonly rendered as Bima. Bhima is celebrated for immense strength, endurance, and combat skill, and he participates in many key episodes of the epic, including battles and heroic feats against demons and rival warriors.

Beyond the city and the myth, Bima is used as a personal name and appears in regional toponyms in Indonesia. Its historical resonance is tied to the Bima Sultanate, a former eastern Sumbawan monarchy that influenced local governance and trade before and during the colonial era.
