Aéropostales, officially known as La Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, was a pioneering French airmail company. Founded in 1927, it was the result of the merger of several smaller aviation companies that had been instrumental in developing long-distance air routes. The company's primary mission was to establish and maintain airmail services across vast distances, particularly to its colonial territories.

The most famous and ambitious route operated by Aéropostales was the line connecting France to South America. This service, begun in 1927, involved a complex network of flights across the Atlantic Ocean, often requiring multiple stops and the use of seaplanes. Pilots like Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the renowned author of "The Little Prince," flew for Aéropostales and documented the challenges and romance of these early aerial endeavors.
