Ausdruckseinheit

Ausdruckseinheit is a German term used mainly in linguistics, semantics and formal languages to denote the smallest unit of an expression that carries meaning or contributes to its value. The precise interpretation varies by field: in linguistics it may refer to a unit that expresses a concept within a larger utterance, such as a morpheme, word, or phrase; in formal languages and computer science it typically designates a syntactic unit that can be evaluated to a value, ranging from a literal or variable to a composite expression built from operators and operands.
