Augustins

Augustins is the French plural form used for adherents of the Augustinian religious tradition, or more broadly for things connected with Saint Augustine of Hippo. Augustine was a 4th–5th century theologian whose writings influenced Western Christian thought. In the Catholic Church, Augustinians follow his spiritual heritage and live in communities inspired by his Rule.

There are several Augustinian groups. The best known is the Order of Saint Augustine (O.S.A.), a mendicant order whose members engage in preaching, teaching, parish work, and social service. There are also Augustinian Canons (canons regular) who live in communities and minister in churches, and various female congregations sharing Augustinian spirituality.

Historically, Augustinians contributed to education, care for the sick, and scholarly life across Europe and the Americas. In modern times, their communities operate schools, universities, parishes, and charitable institutions, while participating in ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.

The term Augustins may also appear in French-language sources to indicate places or people associated with Saint Augustine.
