Atsivärit

Atsivärit, also known as active dyes or reactive dyes, are a class of colorants that form a chemical bond with the substrate they are applied to. This covalent bond creates a highly stable and wash-fast color. Atsivärit are primarily used for dyeing cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen, and rayon, but can also be used for wool and silk under specific conditions.

The dyeing process with atsivärit typically involves a neutral or alkaline pH and the presence of an electrolyte, such as salt, to promote dye uptake. The dye molecule has a reactive group that, under the right conditions, will react with a functional group on the fiber, such as a hydroxyl group on cellulose. This reaction permanently attaches the dye to the fiber.

Atsivärit offer a wide spectrum of bright and vibrant colors, including reds, blues, and yellows, and are known for their excellent lightfastness and washfastness compared to many other dye classes. Common types of atsivärit include vinyl sulfone, monochlorotriazine, and dichlorotriazine dyes, each with slightly different reactivity and application requirements. Due to their strong bonding and durability, atsivärit are a popular choice for both industrial textile dyeing and home dyeing projects.
