Astrographs

Astrographs are a type of astronomical photographic telescope designed for wide-field imaging. The term "astrograph" is derived from the Greek words "astro" meaning star, and "graph" meaning to write or record.

This is achieved through a combination of a wide-angle objective lens and a long focal length, resulting in a high focal ratio. The large field of view is essential for astrographs as it allows astronomers to observe and study large-scale structures in the sky, such as star clusters and galaxies.

Astrographs were widely used in the early 20th century for various astronomical purposes, including the creation of star catalogs, the study of variable stars, and the discovery of new celestial objects. They were also used for astrophotography, capturing stunning images of the night sky.

Today, astrographs are less common due to the advent of modern digital imaging techniques and the use of charge-coupled devices (CCDs) in astronomical telescopes. However, they still hold historical significance and are sometimes used by amateur astronomers for their wide-field imaging capabilities.
