Asiaten

Asiaten is a German term used to refer to people from Asia or of Asian origin. The term covers a broad spectrum of cultures, nations, and ethnicities across East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia (the Middle East). The category thus includes millions of people with diverse languages, religions, and traditions—examples include Han Chinese, Bengali, Punjabi, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Persian, Turkish, and Indonesian communities, among many others.

Asia is the largest continent, spanning from the Ural Mountains and the Arctic in the west to the Pacific in the east, and from the Arctic to the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. The region is home to dozens of languages and wide-ranging religious traditions, including Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Shinto, Taoism, Sikhism, and others.

In German, Asiaten is often used in demographic or media language to describe people of Asian heritage; however, because it is broad, it may conceal differences among communities and can be seen as outdated. Many contexts prefer more precise descriptors by region (East Asian, South Asian, Southeast Asian) or by country or ethnicity. Historically, Asian migration to Europe and the Americas has created diverse diasporic communities, contributing to society in multiple sectors.
