Arvutiekraane, also known as computer screens or displays, are electronic visual output devices that show images generated by a computer. They are a fundamental component of most personal computers, laptops, and mobile devices. Early computer screens were based on cathode ray tube (CRT) technology, which used electron beams to illuminate phosphors on the screen. These CRTs were bulky and consumed significant power.

Modern arvutiekraane primarily utilize liquid crystal display (LCD) technology, which offers a thinner profile, lower power consumption, and improved image quality. LCD screens work by passing light through polarizing filters and a liquid crystal layer that can twist the light's polarization. This allows for precise control over pixel brightness and color. Further advancements have led to organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays, which offer superior contrast ratios, faster response times, and wider viewing angles by using organic compounds that emit light when an electric current is applied.

Key specifications for arvutiekraane include resolution, which determines the sharpness and detail of the image; refresh rate, indicating how many times the screen updates per second and affecting motion smoothness; and color depth, specifying the number of colors that can be displayed. Screen size, measured diagonally in inches, is another important factor for user experience. The ergonomics of computer screens, including adjustability of height and tilt, are also considered to ensure comfortable use.
