Artikulationsübergänge
Artikulationsübergänge refer to the acoustic and articulatory adjustments that occur when moving from one speech sound to another. These transitions are crucial for fluent speech production and perception. When a speaker produces a sequence of sounds, the articulators (tongue, lips, jaw, etc.) do not simply stop and start anew for each sound. Instead, they anticipate the next sound and begin to adjust their position, leading to coarticulation. This means that the acoustic properties of a sound can be influenced by its preceding and following sounds. For instance, the vowel sound in "see" might sound slightly different depending on whether it is followed by a /t/ or a /k/.
The study of artikulationsübergänge is important in phonetics and speech science. Understanding these transitions helps explain
