Arkivyskupas

Arkivyskupas is the Lithuanian word for archbishop. An archbishop is a bishop of a higher rank who presides over an ecclesiastical province, which is a group of dioceses. In the Catholic Church, an archbishop holds authority over the bishops in the suffragan dioceses within their province. While suffragan bishops are subordinate to the archbishop in terms of provincial administration, they retain their full authority within their own dioceses. The role of an archbishop often involves overseeing liturgical practices, ensuring adherence to church doctrine, and acting as a mediator in disputes within the province. The title is also used in other Christian denominations that have an episcopal structure, such as some Anglican and Eastern Orthodox churches. The insignia of an archbishop typically includes a pallium, a circular band of white wool worn around the neck, which symbolizes their authority and the burden of their office.
