Arealsysteme

Arealsysteme are defined geographic units used to partition space for analysis, planning, and administration. They provide mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive spatial areas with consistent boundaries, enabling comparability over time and across regions. The term is used in fields such as geography, urban planning, statistics, environmental management, and land-use planning, and can refer to different kinds of area frameworks.
