Arbeidsmiljøetaten

The Arbeidsmiljøetaten, often translated as the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, is a governmental agency in Norway responsible for supervising and enforcing the Working Environment Act. Its primary mission is to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all employees in the country. The agency works to prevent accidents, occupational diseases, and other adverse health effects arising from work.

The Arbeidsmiljøetaten conducts inspections of workplaces across various sectors to verify compliance with legislation related to working conditions, such as physical environment, psychosocial factors, working hours, and employee participation. They provide guidance and information to both employers and employees on their rights and obligations under the Working Environment Act. In cases of non-compliance, the authority has the power to issue warnings, impose sanctions, and in some instances, order immediate cessation of activities deemed dangerous.

The agency is also involved in promoting a positive work culture and fostering dialogue between employers and employees regarding work environment issues. Through its work, the Arbeidsmiljøetaten contributes to the overall well-being of the Norwegian workforce and the productivity of businesses. It operates under the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
