Antiozonant

Antiozonant is a chemical additive used to protect materials, particularly rubber and plastics, from degradation caused by ozone. Ozone is a highly reactive gas present in the atmosphere that can attack the carbon-carbon double bonds found in many polymers, leading to chain scission, cracking, and loss of physical properties. This process is known as ozone attack or ozone cracking.

Antiozonants work by scavenging ozone molecules before they can react with the polymer backbone. They achieve this through various mechanisms, often involving chemical reactions that consume the ozone or form protective layers on the surface of the material. Common types of antiozonants include aromatic amines and phenolic compounds.
