Antigenrespons

Antigenrespons is a term used to describe the immune system's response to antigens, which are substances recognized as foreign by the body and capable of eliciting an immune reaction. This response plays a crucial role in defending the body against pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms, as well as in the recognition of abnormal cells, such as cancer cells.

The process begins when an antigen enters the body and is identified by antigen-presenting cells, such as macrophages and dendritic cells. These cells process and present fragments of the antigen on their surface in conjunction with major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. This presentation activates T lymphocytes (T cells), which differentiate into various subsets that coordinate the immune response. B lymphocytes (B cells) are also stimulated to produce specific antibodies against the antigen, facilitating its neutralization and removal.

The strength and nature of the antigenrespons are influenced by the antigen's properties, the individual's immune status, and the context in which exposure occurs. A well-regulated antigenrespons is essential for effective immunity; however, an excessive or misdirected response can lead to allergic reactions, autoimmune diseases, or chronic inflammation.

Vaccines, for instance, aim to elicit a controlled antigenrespons that confers long-lasting immunity without causing disease.
