Antifagyasztó

Antifagyasztó, also known as antifreeze or coolant, is a liquid additive used in internal combustion engines to prevent the engine coolant from freezing in cold temperatures and overheating in warm temperatures. It is typically a mixture of ethylene glycol or propylene glycol and water. The primary function of antifreeze is to lower the freezing point and raise the boiling point of the engine's cooling system. This dual action protects the engine from damage caused by both freezing and boiling.

The glycol component of antifreeze has a lower freezing point and a higher boiling point than water alone. When mixed with water in the correct proportions, it creates a fluid that remains liquid over a wider temperature range. This is crucial for maintaining optimal engine operating temperatures. Antifreeze also contains corrosion inhibitors that protect the various metal components within the cooling system from rust and other forms of degradation. Over time, antifreeze can degrade and lose its protective properties, necessitating periodic replacement according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.
