Anioncsereképesség is a Hungarian term that translates to "anion exchange capacity" in English. It refers to the ability of a material, typically a soil or a resin, to hold and exchange negatively charged ions, or anions. This property is crucial in various applications, including water purification, soil science, and chemical analysis.

In soil science, anion exchange capacity influences the availability of essential plant nutrients like nitrate and phosphate, which are anions. Soils with higher anion exchange capacity can retain these nutrients more effectively, reducing their leaching and making them more accessible to plants. Conversely, low anion exchange capacity can lead to nutrient deficiencies and environmental pollution due to nutrient runoff.

In water treatment, anion exchange resins are employed to remove unwanted anions from water. These resins are porous materials containing charged functional groups that attract and bind specific anions, such as sulfate, nitrate, or fluoride. As contaminated water passes through the resin bed, the target anions are exchanged for less harmful ones, such as chloride, effectively purifying the water.
