Andóic

Andóic is a fictional language and associated culture developed for speculative fiction and world-building projects. It is spoken by the Andói, a coastal confederation inhabiting the northern archipelago of the Valen Sea in the imagined world of Elarion. The name Andóic also designates the language family spoken by these communities.

Phonology: Andóic features a modest phoneme inventory, with five vowels (a e i o u) and consonants such as p t k m n s l r h; phonotactics favor simple syllables (CV, CVC, V, or CVR). It exhibits vowel harmony and occasional phonetic palatalization before front vowels.

Grammar: Andóic is described as moderately inflected and primarily agglutinative. Nouns inflect for number and case (nominative, accusative, genitive, dative), while verbs encode aspect, mood, and evidentiality with affixes. The basic word order is subject–object–verb, though discourse-oriented variants allow SVO. Adjectives generally follow the nouns they modify. Postpositions replace prepositions, and noun phrases can include multiple relative clauses.

Writing system: The Andóic script is an alphabet with diacritics and a set of ligatures used in ceremonial texts. Literacy is historically associated with seafaring orders and priestly guilds.

Cultural notes: The Andói culture emphasizes seamanship, crafts, and oral storytelling. Important cultural expressions include boat-building chants and anchor-lore myths. In the fictional corpus, Andóic texts preserve genealogies and navigational knowledge.
