Andhverft

Andhverft is a coastal town and municipality in the Nordor region of Veridia. Situated on a sheltered inlet along the Veridian coast, it serves as a local hub for fishing, shipbuilding, and tourism. The name is connected to its historic shipyard, established in the 16th century and operating into the modern era.

The settlement grew from a small fishing village documented in the 12th century. The shipyard expanded in the 16th century, attracting craftsmen and merchants. In the 19th and 20th centuries, Andhverft developed railroad and road connections that linked it to larger markets, while the port adapted to containerized trade and passenger ferries. Since the late 20th century the town has diversified into tourism and light industry.

Geography and economy: The town lies on a natural harbor with surrounding pine forests and gentle hills. The harbour serves fishing fleets, shipyards, and ferry services to neighboring islands. The local economy emphasizes seafood processing, ship repair, and coastal tourism, including waterfront markets and seaside hikes.

Demographics and culture: As of 2023, Andhverft had about 7,800 residents. The population is predominantly Veridian-speaking, with a small number of seasonal workers and international visitors. The municipality operates a council-based government with a mayor and an administrative staff. Local landmarks include Andhverft Lighthouse, the Shipyard Museum, and the annual Sea Festival, which celebrates maritime heritage with parades, markets, and concerts.
