Aminolyysit

Aminolyysit is a group of enzymes responsible for the breakdown of peptides and proteins into constituent amino acids. This process is called proteolysis. Aminolyysit enzymes are categorized into four main classes based on the type of peptide bond they hydrolyze: endopeptidase, aminopeptidase, carboxypeptidase, and dipeptidase.

Endopeptidase cleaves internal peptide bonds, resulting in the production of shorter peptides and free amino acids. Aminopeptidase, on the other hand, removes amino acids from the N-terminus of a peptide chain, releasing a single amino acid at a time. Carboxypeptidase is a type of exopeptidase that cleaves amino acids from the C-terminus of a peptide chain. Dipeptidase, as the name suggests, specifically cleaves dipeptide bonds.
