Ambigai

Ambigai is a commune in the Seine-Maritime department of northern France, located in the Normandy region. It lies roughly 10 kilometres to the south of the city of Rouen and is situated on the banks of the Seine River, benefitting from the fertile alluvial plain that characterises much of the surrounding area.

The commune covers an area of 6.5 square kilometres and had a population of 1,247 according to the most recent census conducted in 2018. Housing in Ambigai is primarily rural residential, with a small cluster of low‑rise commercial structures along the main street. The population density is therefore modest when compared to more urban municipalities in the region.

Ambigai's local economy historically relied on agriculture, with cereal crops and dairy production a mainstay of the area. In recent decades, the town has seen a modest diversification of its economic base, with an increase in small‑scale artisanal craft shops and a growing community of commuters who work in Oise or in the metropolitan area of Rouen.

The governance structure of Ambigai follows the typical French commune model; the municipal council is headed by a mayor elected for a term of six years, the next election scheduled for 2026. The commune is part of the intercommunal structure known as the Métropole Rouen Normandie, which coordinates administration and development initiatives for the area.
