Amatillo

Amatillo is a common name used for several species of plants, most notably within the family Fabaceae (legumes). One of the most frequently encountered is *Vachellia caven*, also known as *Acacia caven*. This species is a thorny shrub or small tree native to arid and semi-arid regions of South America, particularly Chile, Argentina, and Peru. It is characterized by its small, often golden-yellow flowers that bloom in dense, globular clusters and its characteristic thorns. The wood of *Vachellia caven* has been historically used for firewood and charcoal production, and its pods have been utilized for tanning leather due to their high tannin content.

Another plant referred to as amatillo, particularly in some parts of Mexico, is *Senna multiglandulosa*. This shrub or small tree also belongs to the Fabaceae family and is recognized for its bright yellow flowers and pinnately compound leaves. It is found across much of the Americas, from Mexico south to Argentina. *Senna multiglandulosa* has traditional medicinal uses in some cultures.
