Alveolusokba

Alveolusokba, also known as alveoli, are tiny air sacs located at the end of the bronchioles in the lungs. They are responsible for the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide during the process of respiration. Each alveolus is surrounded by a network of capillaries, which are tiny blood vessels, allowing for efficient gas exchange. The walls of the alveoli are composed of a single layer of squamous epithelial cells, which are thin and flat, facilitating the diffusion of gases.

The structure of the alveoli is optimized for gas exchange, with a large surface area and thin walls. This design ensures that oxygen from the inhaled air can easily diffuse into the bloodstream, while carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular respiration, can diffuse out of the bloodstream and into the alveoli to be exhaled. The alveoli are also supported by a network of elastic fibers, which help to maintain their shape and prevent them from collapsing during exhalation.

The number of alveoli in the human lungs is estimated to be around 480 million, and they are constantly being renewed throughout life. This process is known as alveolarization, and it involves the division of existing alveoli to increase the surface area available for gas exchange. The alveoli play a crucial role in maintaining the body's oxygen and carbon dioxide balance, and any disruption to their structure or function can have serious health implications.
