Aluva

Aluva, also known as Alwaye, is a municipality and suburb of Kochi in Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. It lies on the southern bank of the Periyar River and is part of the Kochi metropolitan area.

Historically a summer retreat for the Cochin royal family, Aluva has developed into a commercial and residential centre. The Periyar riverfront is a focal point of the town, where the Aluva Manappuram hosts the annual Sivarathri festival, drawing pilgrims from across Kerala.

Transportation in Aluva is well developed. The town is connected by road to Kochi and other parts of Kerala, and has its own railway station on the Ernakulam–Mangalore line, providing rail access to the region. The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery serves air travel for residents and visitors, located a short drive from Aluva.

Aluva is part of the greater Kochi urban area and hosts markets, educational institutions, and religious and cultural sites that reflect Kerala's secular landscape, including temples, churches, and mosques along its riverfront.
